Oceanographic Sensors & Moorings
C-ROM – Compact Recoverable Ocean Mooring
The C-ROM (Compact Recoverable Oceanographic Mooring) is ROMOR’s own
compact solution to mooring and recovering oceanographic instrumentation.
The C-ROM is an oceanographic subsurface mooring design that offers a reliable
combination of flotation, acoustic release and ocean instrument.
Instrument Frames & Custom Mount Designs
ROMOR can assemble a wide range of custom frames for the secure mounting of oceanographic instrumentation. Frames are available with various types of flotation and recovery packages depending on the application requirement and environment. Our mooring engineering expertise combined with our design and fabrication capabilities,
result in reliable frames built to meet the requirements of any underwater installation.
Unmanned & Autonomous Maritime Vehicles
The Liquid Robotics Wave Glider is a configurable platform designed to support
a wide variety of sensor payloads. It can keep station or travel from point to point.
A unique two-part architecture and wing system directly converts wave motion into
thrust, and solar panels provide electricity for sensor payloads. By continuously
harvesting energy from the environment, Wave Gliders are able to travel long
distances, hold station, and monitor vast areas without ever needing to refuel.
The iRobot Seaglider is a deep-diving vehicle designed for missions lasting many
months and covering thousands of miles. With integrated sensors, the Seaglider
measures many different perameters in the ocean and sending the data back via
satellite telemetry. More than 135 Seaglider UUVs have been delivered to
customers worldwide, including the U.S. Navy, government agencies and research
organizations.
Data, Gateway & Custom Buoy Platforms
The Aanderaa Data Instruments (AADI) Data Buoy offers a moored platform for measuring, meteorological conditions, wave height and period, current speed and direction, and specialized sensors such as temperature, salinity, turbidity, pH, oxygen, and conductivity of water.
The Teledyne Gateway Buoy provides customers with real-time data monitoring of their
subsea sensors or vehicles from a remote shore station. The buoy is two-man deployable
and can be launched from a small craft/boat.

Should you require a different solution based on size, buoyancy
or instrument constraints, ROMOR also provides customers with custom build Gateway & Data Buoy solutions specialized to the instruments and application.
The SEAGUARD Sensor Datalogger Platform and Products are based on modern
technology and are the basic modules of our underwater observatory. They may be
used as a multi-parameter instrument in the sea and in freshwater and feature a
modular plug-and-play architecture. Smart Sensors and supporting data acquisition software products are specifically designed for real-time Met/Ocean observations systems. Individual sensors’ simply become plug-in nodes in observing arrays
and/or self-contained instrument payloads.
SEAGUARD products include:
- Current Profiler RDCP
- Current Meter RCM
- Sensors - O2, CTD, Salinity
- Wave & Tide Recorder
- Water Level Recorder
Acoustic Releases & Pop-Up Buoys
ROMOR offers a wide range of Acoustic Releases for shallow water and deep sea equipment recovery, manufactured by Teledyne Benthos. All releases are operated from the deck units, giving users wireless topside control over their subsea devices.
Subsea & Surface Modems
Teledyne Benthos underwater acoustic modems are used in worldwide subsea applications to transmit data wirelessly through the water, and provided by ROMOR to our Canadian clientele. Modem applications include remote monitoring of oceanographic sensors, control of wellhead and pipeline valves, control of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), subsea networking and many military applications.
SMART Products
Smart Modem Acoustic Release Technology (SMART) is a unique concept from Teledyne Benthos that combines the proven technology of an underwater acoustic release with the reliable undersea communications functionality of an acoustic modem.
Flotation & Buoyancy Packages

Flotation Technologies' depth and breadth of experience allows ROMOR to provide
our customers with innovative design and engineering of subsea buoyancy packages.
We offer variable sizes of syntactic mooring buoyancy and ADCP deployment spheres,
streamlined subsurface systems for high currents and bottom mount structures.
Surface & Subsea Beacons & Flashers
For oceanographic tracking applications such as mooring location and asset tracking, ROMOR offers Xeos’ line of Argos, VHF and Iridium transmitters, along with submersible LED Flashers. Xeos Technologies is known throughout the world for its innovative approach to data telemetry products designed for harsh environments.
Profiling Systems & Sediment Sampling
ROMOR provides advanced time-series samplers and moored profiling solutions to our oceanographic community through products manufactured by McLane Research Labs.
Auto-detection Moorings & Stretch Hoses

The EOM mooring system solves the problem of high flow-noise-to-signal ratios in passive acoustic applications by using a robust mooring system that isolates the hydrophone from surface buoy motions. It provides a stable and reliable mooring platform for real time data and communication from subsurface instrumentation.
Scanfish Towed Undulating Vehicle System

From Eiva, the ScanFish MK II and Scanfish Mini are towed undulating vehicle systems designed for collecting profile data of the water column in oceanographic, bathymetric and environmental monitoring applications.
